The ViaWorks Server will run on 64-bit versions of Windows 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012 Operating systems. Furthermore, ViaWorks is well suited for installing and running in virtual environments like Citrix XenServer, VMWare, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
Please note that if you are planning to index an IBM Domino Server, you will be required to install the appropriate Domino Client on the server PRIOR to installing the ViaWorks software.
The following table describes the software requirements for a ViaWorks Server:
Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2012 R2. (64-bit versions required)
The cluster size on the data partition should be 4k or larger. A cluster size of less than 4k will result in severe data fragmentation and reduced performance.
The server MUST be a member of the same domain as all users and data sources.
The server should be dedicated to running only ViaWorks, and not running any other software application.
IIS Web Server
During installation, Internet Information Service will be installed.
1 Framework is required to run ViaWorks. During the ViaWorks installation, it will be installed automatically if it's not already installed. An internet connection is required otherwise .NET 4.
1 must be installed prior to installing ViaWorks.
It is highly recommended that you give the ViaWorks Server computer a "user friendly" name (DNS name). You can simplify user access to the ViaWorks Server by using the server name “ViaWorks.”
When the ViaWorks Server is installed, the IIS service is installed and activated. The ViaWorks Web Client can be reached at the URL "http://ViaWorks/search/". This link will be routed to the web service start address at "http://ViaWorks/search/index.aspx"
To avoid performance problems when indexing data, as well as potential indexing data corruption, DO NOTconfigure anti-virus software to run on the ViaWorks Server.
If anti-virus software is not prevented from scanning the ViaWorks system folders, this will result in very high CPU processing and greatly impact the ViaWorks server performance. Furthermore, file lock conditions may result, which in turn can lead to index corruption, and possible data-loss.Assuming all of your data servers and sources are well protected against virus attacks, excluding the ViaWorks Server is not a security risk. All documents will have already been checked for viruses before they are indexed.
